TESCO BAGS OF HELP SCHEME

Friends of St. James in conjunction with Bichampton PCC are delighted to announce that St. James Church, Bishampton has been shortlisted for the Tesco bags of help scheme.

Our aim is to use the grant funding to create an accessible memorial garden and community space within the churchyard. The garden, pathway and benches would ensure accessibility for all to enjoy a quiet time experiencing the calm of the churchyard and the countryside beyond. This area is away from the graves and will also be able to be used to put up our marquee for village fetes and other community uses as soon as we can provide the level area and pathways for pushchairs and disabled access. Additional funds would enable the PCC to further the plans to create a ‘Living Churchyard’ by the creation of a wildlife corridor to the perimeter of the churchyard and the planting of a native species hedgerow to the car park to enhance biodiversity and create a wildlife haven.

You can vote for the church to receive the grant in Tesco stores from 31st October 2016.​

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 416 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 31st October- 13th November on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. In total, there is over £12.5 million up for grabs.
