REGAL CINEMA

The Regal Cinema, Port Street, is a lovely example of a Grade II “Art Deco” Cinema. Built in 1932, it is the work of noted Architect Hurley Robinson, something of a specialist in the field; something of a specialist in the field, he completed over 50 Cinema projects during his career.

Poole Phillips Associates was engaged to prepare detailed designs and specifications for the restoration of the original fabric and rooftop extension, incorporating 2 new screens and bar/leisure facilities. Plans also included the fitting out of the Main Auditorium, Café Bar, Circle and “back of house” amenities.

This is a community-based project with a vast array of skills drawn from a “Friends of the Regal” network. This encompasses specialists in Projection Technology and Cinema Management through to the kind of endeavours of the ready band of helpers and supporters notably including the Projects Patron, Alistair McGowen, Impressionist and Actor.

Working with Wychavon District Council, Advantage West Midlands, West Midlands RDP and DEFRA. This project was successfully completed in 2011 and the practice has since been commissioned for new extension works that began in 2014.
