HILL TOP FARM

INTERIOR

Hill Top Farm was originally built as a Medieval Hall Home, and subsequently remodelled in the 17th Century. It is Grade II listed and situated in a secluded rural setting. This substantial family home has been extended on several occasions over the original hall house and features a vernacular timer frame.

The Practice was commissioned to undertake the restoration of the building fabric including traditional lime plaster work and timer frame repairs. The roof timbers were repaired and strengthened in order to accommodate the solar thermal installation. We used natural sheep’s wool insulation to both walls and loft spaces in keeping with the sustainable characteristics of the project.

Additionally, the Practice assisted with the specification of provision of a wind turbine discretely positioned on the estate despite its location in open countryside.

Such was the delicate integration of “old & new” in this revitalised family home that it was awarded the Wychavon District Council “Building of Distinction Award” for 2009 as it successfully demonstrated a unique blend of historic conservation and a sustainable approach to energy conservation.
